Boat-Stopping

At the beginning of summer 2011 Schaffhausen implemented a nationwide premiere: In the Munot-Town there is a new boat stop by the Rhine. It is equipped with an information board and a bench. Guests wishing a spontaneous Rhine round trip can simply flag down the boatmen.

At Lindli in Schaffhausen a boat stop has been set up. It is located at Kanzel by the Rhine near the building Rheinhaldenstrasse 50. The idea is that it becomes a meeting point for boatmen and people wishing to have a boat ride. The boatmen can be asked for a lift there. The so-called hitchhiker flags down a boat at no expense. The boat stoppers travel at their own risk, however, provided that they can swim or have a swimming aid with them. The captain’s instructions are strictly to be adhered to.
The favourite means of transportation on this part of the Rhine is actually the traditional Weidling, a wooden boat. Approx. 10-metre long flat boats with lightweight tonnage of 320 kg, these boats have between 4 and 10 seats.
