The Schaffhausen border trail connects the overwhelming hydro power of the Rhine Falls with the lovingly tended vines of the pretty winegrowing region Wilchingen-Osterfingen. Geology and botany are the focus of this hike.
Route
Starting in Neuhausen am Rheinfall, Herbstäcker, the Schaffhausen border trail leads from the thundering Rhine Falls through the tranquil woods of Schaff-hausen’s south Randen range to the winegrowing region of Wilchingen-Osterfingen.
On the way is the still-farmed Aazheimerhof, that was built 400 years ago as the farming estate and summer residence of the abbots from Rheinau. At the boundary stone N° 67 an erratic block called, grey stone’ rises out of the 'Bohnerz' bean ore mine. In 1330 it was already men-tioned as the boundary stone of Neunkirch. Sika deer, originally from China, live in the beautiful woods of Erlenboden and Wasen-hütte. Enjoy an incredible view from the fortress ruins Randegg far beyond the Klettgau valley, famous for its wine. Bad Osterfingen, first mentioned in 1472, is today famous for its wine estate and country inn.
Osterfingen, the heritage listed village mentioned in the Fed-eral inventory, forms an excel-lent setting to enjoy a choice Schaffhausen Blauburgunder wine.
