One-day hike in the cultivated countryside of Randen, from Schleitheim through the valley, Randental, to the highest point of Randen at 912 m, from where, via Hagen, you reach Merishausen. The focal point of this hike is the impressive countryside and nature.
Randen, the lime foothills of the Jura, stretch along the western part of the canton. Randen is known for its biodiversity. Many endangered or already extinct animals in the midlands can be found in large numbers on Randen. In spring you can see magnificent kinds of orchids. From May to June they display their beautiful colours.
The Randen trail begins at the Schleitheim post office and takes you via Birbistel and Staufenberg with views of the Wutachtal valley, the Black Forest and Klettgau, to Beggingen. Like all villages ending in «-ingen» also Beggingen illustrates the home of Alemannic roots. From Bekko we have Beckingen and later on Beggingen.
The ascent of the Schwedenschanze to the tower,Hagenturm, is rewarded with magnificent views of the Swiss Alpine panorama and the Black Forest. The way to Merishausen leads over Hagen and Berglen and through the valley, Gugertal, and along Schlothalde.
Route
Schleitheim, Gemeindehaus - Merishausen, Gemeindehaus
Starting point is, Gemeindehaus, Schleitheim. You follow the signposts over Staufenberg and Birbistel. After that, follow the signposts towards Beggingen. Then follow the signs via «Murenhäldili» and «Stiegenbrünneli» to Swedenschanze. The signs will lead you to the tower, Hagenturm. Continue following the signs towards Berglen and Gugertal to Merishausen.
