One of Schaffhausen’s most popular parks called, Lindli, stretches along the banks of the Rhine. Its existence is, on the one hand thanks to the start of tourism in the second half of the 19th century and, on the other hand thanks to the town’s endeavours to hide the gasworks buildings behind a green backdrop of trees. Over the decades Lindli evolved to a much-used promenade with exotic trees and a lot of benches with views of the Rhine. Intricately designed summer flowerbeds interchange with quite extensive lawn areas. At some spots there is direct access to the water between the rows of Weidlings (traditional wooden boats).
