The Randen mountain range has something to offer for everyone: relaxing hikes on good trails over hills, through forests and fields; challenging biking tours with fast and exciting downhill rides and lots more!
Randen is a popular local recreation area of Schaffhausen. These lime foothills of the Jura, stretch along the western part of the canton. The highest point is situated in the community of Merishausen with a height of approx. 912 metres above sea level. That is why it is usually sunny on the Randen whilst the town of Schaffhausen is in the fog.
In wintertime ski slopes and cross-country tracks are groomed and short ski lifts are in operation. Favourite hiking destinations in summer are, the so-called "Randentürme", high scaffolding-like towers, from where you can enjoy magnificent views of the complete mountain range. Some towers have restaurants nearby where you can tank up new energy.
Many different endangered or already extinct animals in the midlands can be found in large numbers on the Randen. The Randen is also known for its different kinds of orchid migration. From May to June you can admire their beautiful colours. Visit Randen and discover the diverse flora and fauna!
