Formerly, the approx. 300 sq.m. large rose garden was superbly designed by the Swiss “Father of Roses”, Dietrich Woessner, as a style and testing garden.
The fact that the roses were depleted inspired the members of Schaffhausen’s rose friends, in 2009 on the occasion, to awaken the garden and its ‘Sleeping Beauties’ again to their former glory. After the Canton of Schaffhausen had completed the necessary groundwork fresh roses were bought with the aid of donations in spring 2010 and the members planted the roses on their own. The colour-coordinated rose beds are bordered off by the existing box hedges. The entrance is formed by a shrub bed of roses and grasses, the exit by a newly-repaired fountain and seating facilities.
