It combines archaeology, history and art as well as natural history, under one roof and displays both large permanent exhibitions and six to eight special exhibitions every year. The permanent exhibition "Schaffhausen im Fluss", where the history of the town and region can be experienced first-hand, was newly opened in 2008.
